There are two types of non prescription sleep aids: pharmaceutical and herbal. Even though they are non prescription sleep aids, the pharmaceutical type still have side effects. This is because most non prescription sleep aids are made from an antihistamine and this causes a lot of daytime drowsiness and can lead to a dependency, though less so than with prescription sleep aids. Herbal non prescription sleep aids however do not have this problem, and are generally much safer and cheaper than pharmaceutical sleep drugs. They allow you to get natural sleep, which is much better sleep quality. Despite the fact they are more commonly used, pharmaceutical non prescription sleep aids are usually no more effective that their herbal counterparts but many people see them as being more convenient. This is not true, herbal non prescription sleep aids can easily be ordered online or bough at a local health store.

Although you may not know the name Diazepam, you have undoubtedly heard of Valium before. It is one of the most popular drugs in the world and Diazepam is considered one of the basic drugs necessary to maintaining a basic healthcare system by the World Health Organization. Despite the fact that Diazepam use is very common, it does not mean the drug is particularly safe. Overdoses of Diazepam are fairly common and the side effects of using Diazepam can be quite harsh. Hallucinations and sudden personality changes are not uncommon, as are slurred speech and loss of sex drive. In some cases Diazepam use ironically causes hyperactivity. The drug is quite damaging to the liver and kidneys, and Diazepam use should be avoided if possible. Alternatives to Diazepam have come up in the form of other benzodiazepines such as Xanax and Ativan, though these are rarely better. Instead, you should try natural alternatives to Diazepam which are quite effective and are much, much safer both for treating anxiety and getting a good night's sleep.

The first sleeping drugs were opiates, and even though they were quite good at inducing sleep obviously had a lot of addiction and side effect issues. Today's sleeping drugs are barely any better, and also have addiction and side effect issues as well. Sleeping drugs like Ambien for instance can easily lead to a dependency on the medication to get to sleep at all. Ambien can have worse side effects than just drowsiness, memory loss and personality change can result from its use. Over the counter sleep aids can be just as bad as the prescription variety, and both should be avoided if possible. Instead, herbal supplements can be just as effective and without the negative aspects of pharmaceutical sleeping drugs. They are made from a combination of herbs from all over the world, and most varieties are available either in the pharmacy, or can be ordered online. So get the sleep you need without the side effects you don't.
